Professional Experiences
Mr. Wu is an international lawyer holding dual qualifications in both China and Australia, with over a decade of cross-border legal practice experience. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in China in 2006 and subsequently pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Sydney, where he received his Master of Laws degree. In 2008, he successfully passed China’s National Judicial Examination, widely regarded as the most rigorous legal qualification exam in the country, and became a licensed lawyer in China. After gaining substantial experience at a prestigious law firm in Shanghai, he pursued doctoral studies in law and worked at a reputable Australian law firm until 2012, further strengthening his expertise in cross-border legal practice.
From 2013 to 2018, Mr. Wu practiced at a well-regarded full-service law firm in Australia with a predominantly Western client base. His work initially covered real estate, commercial, immigration, and family law, but he gradually focused his practice on commercial litigation and cross-border dispute resolution. During this period, he developed a distinctive litigation style that combines practical legal strategy with deep insights into cultural and procedural differences between China and Australia.
Since 2018, Mr. Wu has served as the Principal Lawyer at Hiways Lawyers. His practice focuses on corporate law, commercial law, and particularly high-stakes commercial litigation. He has acted in a wide range of significant cases, including:
- Representing Chinese clients in multiple large-scale real estate investment fraud cases in Australia, with amounts in dispute ranging from AUD 8 million to AUD 20 million;
- Acting in overseas investment and fund fraud litigation, including class action proceedings;
- Handling recognition and enforcement of Chinese court judgments in Australia, as well as representing Australian clients resisting the enforcement of Chinese arbitral awards in Australia;
- Representing Australian clients in Chinese trade arbitration proceedings;
- Defending clients in intellectual property infringement litigation and achieving favourable settlements;
- Advising on cross-border blockchain project structuring and compliance;
- Serving as long-term legal counsel for several well-known Chinese enterprises expanding into the Australian market.
As a dual-qualified lawyer in China and Australia and a registered migration agent in Australia, Mr. Wu has a unique ability to bridge the differences between Chinese and Australian legal systems and business cultures. With over ten years of experience practicing law across both jurisdictions, he has established himself as a trusted advisor and strategic partner for clients engaged in complex cross-border disputes and international commercial matters.
